About NTA UGC NET:
NTA UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is an exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the post of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The exam is conducted twice a year, in June and December, and consists of two papers- Paper I and Paper II.
Paper 1 is common for all candidates and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions on teaching and research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, and general awareness. Paper II consists of 100 multiple-choice questions from the candidate’s chosen subject.
Candidates who qualify for JRF are eligible for a fellowship for a maximum period of five years to pursue research in their respective fields. Candidates who qualify only for Assistant Professor are not awarded the fellowship but can apply for teaching positions in universities and colleges.
The eligibility criteria for NTA UGC NET include a Master’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) and age not more than 30 years for JRF and 35 years for Assistant Professor. However, there is no age limit for Assistant Professor for candidates who have already qualified for JRF.
